Nicole Baddeley, Community Engagement Officer at Christchurch Town Council, said: “We are proud to support The Great Tail Trail as part of our commitment to promoting tourism and celebrating our town’s unique charm. This initiative not only brings the community together but also encourages visitors to explore Christchurch’s rich history, stunning riverside views, and vibrant local businesses. As a top destination on the South Coast, Christchurch offers a perfect mix of heritage, natural beauty, and a welcoming atmosphere.
Supporting the Tail Trail also means supporting Julia’s House, a wonderful charity providing vital care for children with life-limiting conditions—making this initiative even more meaningful for our community.”
Christchurch BID has partnered with Christchurch Town Council to sponsor a 5ft Mermaid Tail in Christchurch as part of the BCP-wide Julia’s House Great Tail Trail running for 8 weeks from 5 April to 1 June 2025.
The trail will create a free, family-friendly walking trail through popular locations across the entire BCP area, with four large tails being located in Christchurch.
In addition to encouraging local residents to re-discover the towns they love, the fin-tastic public art spectacle is expected to attract thousands of visitors from outside the area. This will provide a welcome boost for local businesses, shine a light on the talented artists and raise the profile of Bournemouth, Christchurch, and Poole.

Lauren is an artist, illustrator and poet living in Poole.
She is known for working in a striking monochromatic palette and her work often centres around her appreciation for the natural world. Lauren incorporates a childlike wonder for the small and curious details of the world around her, and through her art encourages audiences to adopt a slower pace and more gentle way of living.
The key line of a poem written by Lauren, “I breathe with the waves and the waves breathe with me”, wraps playfully around the tail, encouraging viewers to circle it completely and end facing out to sea to watch the waves. Lauren hopes this moment of interaction can support the well-being of many who pass by.
