Joule – Enhancing and Improving visitor & work experience in Christchurch.

Joule is a fully electric utility vehicle to service and maintain the Christchurch BID Levy Area. Carrying out jobs including but not limited to: event set up & safety, watering & planting, leaf clearance, and external cleaning.

Joule CAN do:

  • Seasonal floral planting & installation of hanging baskets
  • Watering & maintenance
  • Gum removal
  • Litter picking
  • Leaf clearance
  • External cleaning
  • Weeding & graffiti removal
  • Reporting to BCP Report it

Joule CAN’T do: 

  • (Fly-tipping (dumped rubbish or bulky waste)
  • Broken pavements or potholes
  • Overflowing public bins
  • Blocked drains or flooding issues
  • Vandalised or damaged street signs
  • Noise complaints or anti-social behaviour
  • Pest control (e.g. rats, wasps)
  • Dog fouling

Joule has enabled Christchurch BID to expand on local council services and provide levy-paying businesses to visually enhance Christchurch.

Joule has been made possible by applying for a BCP grant called the Town Centres Improvement Fund. 

Local freelance Maintenance Ranger Tony will be operating Joules on behalf of Christchurch BID on a part-time basis. 

Joule can respond to online reports from our levy businesses.

Joule Practical Use

  • Cleansing: Equipped with a cage body, the vehicle becomes an efficient tool for litter-picking rounds, floral display watering and maintenance. 
  • Event Logistics: Setting up for festivals and public events is simplified. Joule can transport barriers, signage, and other infrastructure directly to pedestrianised zones.
  • Light Maintenance and Repairs: With a secure box van body, the vehicle can carry tools and equipment for minor repairs to street furniture, graffiti removal, or other maintenance tasks.
  • Visible Presence: Deterring shoplifters and reporting nuisance to CSAS and Neighbourhood Policing Teams (NPT)
